Seward Park Midcentury Modern

Project Overview

This Paul Kirk mid-century modern home was owned by one family since the foundation was poured. When the parents passed on, their only daughter inherited the home she grew up in. With the goal of honoring her family home, no expenses were spared. The exterior remodel utilizing today’s standards include new insulated clad windows and underfloor, wall and roof insulation. The large windows bring the peaceful outdoor setting into the home and the Sapele Mahogany door creates a new warm entrance. The floor to ceiling windows in the back provide views of Seward Park with glimpses of Lake Washington.

There are no exposed fasteners on the clear vertical grain Western Red Cedar T&G siding and window trim. Some elevations are finished natural and some with a semi-transparent stain. The carport was rebuilt with, skylights over the walkway, and a fence with cameras for security. Alaska Yellow Cedar beams and rafters frame the glazed roof structure, creating an outdoor covered courtyard with a garden and water feature. The customer passed a short time after having the opportunity to live in her completed home.  To honor this home and reside there until her passing was her goal and we met
