Queen Anne Craftsman Bathroom
Project Overview
The traditional craftsman design is a signature style in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhoods as can be seen in the bathroom of this 1920s home. It was remodeled in the 1960s but the new owners contacted JM Bogan to remodel it again and restore it back to its original look.
Restoring the hexagonal tile flooring with its black pencil border was essential in returning this bathroom to its original charm, as this type of tiling was not available for several decades after the pre-depression era. A specialty designed raised floor portion was built to accommodate for a much needed drain tie-in.
The rift white oak vanity and cabinets with cup pull handles and granite counters were inspired by a buffet table that JM Bogan noticed in the owners’ dining room at their first consultation. The custom made pieces were crafted in the hopes of replicating that same look. Craftsman style mirrors atop both pieces tie all elements of this room together.
The use of white subway tile in the shower and midway up the walls is historically accurate to the style of the time. Painted upper walls allow the tiling to be showcased rather than overshadowing other key features.
